CRADL and a number of
homeowners of the Village of Lisle have retained Mark W. Daniel and John
R. Zemenak, attorneys with the Law Firm of Rathje, Woodward, Dyer and
Burt, Wheaton, Illinois, to represent their interests in matters related
to the application of Meijer, Inc. for annexation, rezoning and special
use planned unit development of the 60.5 acre parcel of land located at
Maple Avenue and Benedictine Parkway in Lisle.
Mr. Daniel has submitted
a Freedom of Information Request for Public Records to the Village of
Lisle. Mr. Daniel, Mr. Zemenak and their associates will be reviewing
the public record for the purpose of determining whether the Village
followed proper procedures in the handling of the proposed Meijer
development.
Residents are collecting
signatures to force the issue to a non-binding referendum on the April
13, 1999 election ballot. The residents want to know if Meijer
Representatives were honest when they said they would not build in Lisle
if the people of Lisle did not want them.
"We are going to
find out if Meijer is true to their word", said Tim Lane, a Lisle
resident involved in collecting the signatures. "We are outraged
that our elected officials in Lisle would vote to move forward with this
project after over 700 people showed up at the public hearing in July
and spoke in opposition to the plan. Over 1,100 letters of opposition,
including a petition with over 2,500 signatures opposing the proposed
development, were entered into the public record. Only two people spoke
in favor of the project and less than 35 letters were received in favor,
including six from the current landowner who stands to profit handsomely
from the rezoning and sale of the property for intensive commercial
use."
CRADL is a non-profit
corporation whose purpose is to provide information about and further
awareness of developmental issues in the Village of Lisle. CRADL has
been active in helping residents in the Village of Lisle respond to the
purposed Meijer planned unit development. Further information about
CRADL can be obtained on our web site, www.cradl.org.
